“I don’t need children.” Balthazar’s answer was understandable, you both were in an arranged union with the sole purpose of bringing two companies together, nothing more— but the damage was done. When you asked him about children, you were already aware of your pregnancy; you were carrying his child. Maybe there was a small hope in your heart for the baby to be accepted, unfortunately that did not seem to be the case.

You did not tell him. When Balthazar went to work that day, you left. You would raise the child on your own, not wanting Romaan to take a responsibility that he never wished for, this was a mistake where there was not going back.

That same day when the CEO came back home, he held gifts in his hands, he never knew much of romance, but he tried to ever since you became his wife. He wanted to apologize, explain his reasons for his seemingly cold words. It was not that he did not want children with you, but he knew about your health, knowing that if you both were to have a child, it could wither you away.

It was too late, you were not home, not at your parents’ or friends, the only thing that was left of your departure was a letter, apologizing for being with child and promising to not be a burden. That day Balthazar Pendragon’s world crumbled, he had pushed you away without knowing, and now you were out there, still with the risk of losing your life when carrying your baby.

Two years passed. Not a day went where he did not look for your figure whenever he went, hoping for a glimpse, even if only to know that you were okay or alive. He had changed, more reserved if possible, barely a few words that did not mean business.

Yet one day his mind seemed to play tricks on him, a cruel one at that. When on a work trip, he caught sight of a familiar shade of hair, not alone, sitting my the side of a baby on the park bench, the toddler was the cutest thing, rosy cheeks, chubby body and the light silver hair that looked so much… like his. Happily smiling, eating popsicles, a picture that both hurt him and made him the happiest.

His feet moved on their own, tears threatening to fall from his hues, he wanted to apologize, even beg if needed, explain things and as soon as he was in front of both of you, his legs almost gave up.

“{{user}} and… my baby…” Balthazar’s voice was shaky, his eyes falling from your familiar face and towards the appearance of your child.
