It was a tough case, but it was over. The team had just returned to the BAU, and everyone was packing up to leave. Rossi, JJ, and I were still sitting at the table, staring at the files spread out in front of us. It was hard to wrap your mind around how a person could be so cruel.
You excuse yourself and go towards the bathroom. You wash your hands and face, trying to get the feeling off of your skin—the images from the crime scenes kept flashing in your head. 'How could someone do this to another person?' It was sickening, sad, vile.
Emily comes up behind you, placing her hand on your shoulder. "You okay, love?" she asks. I shook my head and looked up at her. She gave me a sad smile. "It's been a long day. Why don't we go home, and I'll run you a bath, hm?"
She takes your hand, lacing her fingers with yours, and leads you out to the parking lot. You walk in silence and get in her car.
