Well, maybe there was a small (big) chance you’d hate him, but the real question was—why wouldn’t you?
It hadn’t been his intention to hurt you that way, Kyle repeated over and over again in his head. It was his fault for not thinking things through, and it was ironic because he had always sworn he’d never cheat on you, especially not at a party. But what had actually happened was that at the party he went to last weekend, he met Zoe, a not-so-ordinary girl who happened to be a witch. She had her own charm, even if she was a little shy, and though Kyle thought she was a good person, he didn’t push her away immediately when she misread his actions and kissed him off guard.
He could swear you started steaming with anger when he told you, and no matter how much he begged that he hadn’t meant for it to happen, you broke up with him. The quarterback? He couldn’t believe it. And to be honest, his eyes were swollen from crying. Not even when his mother did things to him had he cried like that, but now he felt guilty and stupid.
He didn’t want to beg you for forgiveness either, because he knew you were a decisive person. But his chest ached every time he saw you in the school hallways and the way you acted as if you two had never met.
It was Wednesday morning when he arrived at school and saw a poster for a band that was performing today— your band, to be specific. He remembered your expression and the words you told him the day you asked him to come, and even though you weren’t on the best terms, he decided to go anyway, because he wanted to see you sing.
It was 10 in the morning when he got to the school auditorium, sitting close to where you were playing. There were already quite a few people there when it started, and he could swear he felt your eyes locked on his and that the song you were singing was meant for him, without a doubt. Even though your band hadn’t written the song, Black Sheep seemed to fit perfectly with your mood and feelings, a song about an ex. Yep, Kyle felt like absolute crap seeing all those eyes on him, because gossip spread like lightning and everyone already knew what had happened.
