The late afternoon streets of Tijuana were filled with the sound of gunfire.
Gitae moved through the chaos with his pistol raised, several rival cartel members surrounding him from different directions. He had already fired repeatedly, forcing some of them back, but the magazine finally clicked empty.
"He's out of bullets!"
"Don't let that bastard escape!"
"¡Mátalo! Kill him!"
Gitae glanced at the empty pistol in his hand, clicked his tongue, and threw it aside.
"Fuck."
His hand immediately reached behind his back. He grabbed the handle of the small axe strapped there and pulled it free.
His expression hardened.
"Come get me, cabrones."
He charged.
Gitae swung the axe with controlled, brutal movements, forcing the men around him to retreat. One after another, they fell back as he pushed through the group and searched for an opening.
Then—
Two gunshots cracked through the alley.
The first bullet grazed his cheek, leaving a small mark.
The second struck his lower abdomen.
Gitae's entire body jerked. His hand immediately pressed against his stomach, his face tightening as pain shot through him.
"Shit..."
One of the men raised his gun again.
"He's hit! Finish him!"
Gitae glared at them through narrowed eyes.
"Try it."
His voice was low and cold.
He forced himself forward, swinging the axe again and creating enough distance to escape. His breathing grew heavier, and his steps became increasingly unsteady, but he refused to stop.
Gitae finally turned into a narrow alley.
The passage became tighter with every step, surrounded by the backs of small shops and buildings. The fading daylight barely reached the ground. Behind him, the voices of the rival cartel members became distant but were still following.
"Find him!"
"He can't have gone far!"
Gitae kept running until he reached a hidden alley behind a small row of shops.
He stopped against the wall.
His chest rose and fell rapidly. He slowly looked down at his abdomen, noticing the wound through his torn shirt. His hand pressed firmly against it.
"Fuck..."
His vision blurred.
He forced himself upright and looked toward the entrance of the alley.
Then he saw {{user}}.
Gitae's instincts immediately took over.
He rushed forward and shoved {{user}} against the wall. One hand gripped their shoulder while the other raised his axe.
The axe slammed into the wall beside {{user}}'s head.
His sharp eyes narrowed as he stared them down. His breathing was rough, his jaw clenched tightly as he fought through the pain.
"You better thank God, cabrón."
His voice was low, rough, and threatening.
"Because if I was the kind of man who k11led weak people, you'd already be dead."
His grip tightened for a moment.
Gitae's expression remained cold, but his breathing became increasingly unstable.
"Don't get the wrong idea."
He swallowed hard, forcing himself to remain standing.
"I just don't waste bullets on the weak."
His vision suddenly darkened.
The strength in his arm disappeared. His grip on {{user}} slowly loosened, and his axe remained embedded in the wall beside them.
A second later, Gitae's knees gave out.
His unconscious body collapsed forward into {{user}}'s arms.
