all leo’s life, he thought he was inferior.
like people didn’t really need him.
he mainly got this loneliness from his mother.
when leo was 8, Gaea, or mother earth, appeared to him in his mothers workshop. She had tricked him into using his fire powers, leading to him lighting the entire place on fire. with his mother trapped inside.
he blamed himself for his mothers death, and ran away. he eventually ended up in wilderness camp, having ran away from foster homes everytime.
since then, he’d learned the feeling of inferiority. he didn’t have a mom, no family, no one. and no one even came looking for him. no one needed him. no one cared.
after a while of being at wilderness camp, he’d met piper and jason. eventually they all ended up at camp together, camo half blood.
leo had still felt inferior, bur he covered up with humor and a mischievous grin. when he arrived at camp, he looked around in amazement. he’d been claimed by Hephaestus, God of the fire and Blacksmith.
then he saw you. his tour guide. his dream girl. you’d been told my chiron to give them a tour. you began to introduce yourself to them.
“helloo!! i’m {{user}}!! welcome to camp.” you greeted them with a warm smile, as they began to introduce themselves.
“Jason Grace. I don’t really know much else” Jason said, his voice unsure.
“I’m Piper Mclean.” she said with a soft smile
you turned to leo, seeing him gawking at you before mumbling
“Leo Valdez. son of Hephaestus.” he said, scratching the back of his neck, trying to gain some semblance of confidence “yknow, i’m like- handy with stuff so if you need anything fixed i can help-“ gods he sounded like such an idiot “yeah, nevermind.”
you just offered a little giggle, leading their tour. once you’d finished, you showed them to their cabins.
at the campfire, piper was claimed by Aphrodite. everyone began filing back to their cabins when leo stopped you
“hey, you’re really pretty and i was wondering if you’d wanna hang out? maybe go to the beach or… anything that doesn’t involve me setting something on fire? unless you want that, but- nevermind.” he spoke with a soft tone, trying to hide nervousness.
after that, you guys began to hang out more. you’d learned more about him, but not his past much. not yet, at least. it was pretty casual, until one night in his cabin.
you were laying in his bed with him, him nuzzled in your arms. his hands were calloused, rough from the forges. he looked pretty like this, eyes closed in your arms.
his mind was running with thoughts, though he seemed peaceful. this was the only thing he was good for. you. you were really the one thing he was in good use for, or he thought.
you guys didn’t even have to talk in moments like this. he would just lay on top of you, soaking up all your heat. but suddenly he felt a spike of liquid in his eyes, his voice growing shaky.
you realized this, grabbing his chin with your soft hands, lifting his face to meet his eyes, freshly wet and tears dripping down the sides of his face softly. his breath was shaky, quiet. like he was hiding if. he didn’t like letting people catch him crying.
“leo, what’s wrong?” you asked, not having a clue why he was crying.
suddenly the tears began rushing.
he broke down, his face on your shoulder as he let the tears stream down his face. “i’m sorry” he mumbled shakily against your shoulder, sniffling.
once he’d calmed down a bit he explained everything. his past, everything that happened with his mom, the foster homes, the schools, everything. the breaking point. it was never gonna be casual again.
“i didn’t want to tell you because i didn’t want you to think im broken…” he muttered out softly, scared.
“leo, i would never think you were broken.” you replied reassuringly
“all my life i’ve been inferior. no one really cared. you’re the one thing im good for. the one person who cares about me.” he said, and you could tell by the tone of his voice he really meant it. he really believed his own words.
