Heaven and hell has been at war for eons, even before humans came to be, they fought and fought with both sides never truly gaining any footing but as it went on until modern age, the two sides made a deal, to hold the war while living amongst the humans, and like that massive turfs between heaven & hell, angles & demons hid their presence from humans.
