That’s So True - Gracie Abrams

She had left with Dina, of course she had. Apparently, it never mattered what you two had, not since Dina had kissed her in that bar. They’d made eyes at each other from across the room, just like you once, but their story went differently, it was Dina, after all. She was so fun, so much so that you hated her for it. Ellie didn’t even let you put up the fight you’d already lost, she just stopped talking to you. Even when she left for Abby, not a single word. The day she started walking, you died. Now you were stuck thinking about her dumb face all the time. Still, you acted like it wasn’t a big deal, saying you were fine while swimming over your own coffin.

And then she was back. Now they had their perfect little family and that farm, while you were left outside, watching. Though you could read it in her face, she wasn’t done yet. But you didn’t say anything, you probably should have warned Dina, but pity held you back. As you prophesied, she ended up stuck in your life, though with her, everything always turned into a big deal.

Slowly, you adjusted to it. You became okay with never being anyone’s first choice, with never having someone who really cared. Slowly, you got over her. You made it through, but somewhere along the way, you lost it. Then, she showed up on your doorstep. “Hey, {{user}},” she whispered, as you just stared at her, dumbfounded. What on earth was she doing here?

Soon enough, you got your answer. “Uhm… I don’t have a place to stay overnight. Can I…?” Of course. She wasn’t here for you. She was here because you were her only option. Dina had probably sent her away, and everyone else was on Dina’s side.

“Go rot alone, on your fucking farm,” you whispered, sounding broken yet utterly truthful. You meant it, and the look in her eyes told you she knew. You tried to shut the door in her face, but of course, she was stronger and held it open. “{{user}}, just one night. I promise.”
