To put it simply, this series is omegaverse. Those who know it, know it. Those who don’t, continue reading for a better explanation. It’s a bit hard to explain such a broad and undefined AU in a short summary, but I’ll try my best.

Pre-note; Omegaverse can change depending on who is writing it. I’m simply going to explain my version of omegaverse.

Omegaverse is an AU with secondary genders. There are three secondary genders, which kind of act as a hierarchy of sorts. Alphas are at the top, betas are in the middle, and omegas are at the bottom.

Alphas are typically displayed as a more dominant subgender, often taking the lead with things. They are capable of impregnating omegas, despite the gender. A female or male alpha can impregnate a female or male omega. This usually happens when heat and rut cycles line up. Alphas go into something called rut, which is basically if an aphrodisiac and a hormonal teenager had a love child and it lasted for a week. When alphas go into rut, they can be very unstable and often filled with the urge to breed their mate, if they have one. If they don’t have a mate, or if their mate is unwilling to aid the alpha during this time, the alpha can take suppressants—pills that are used to suppress the effects of the rut, as the same suggests.

Omegas are typically displayed as a more submissive subgender, often taking the supporting roles. As stated before, they are capable of getting impregnated, regardless of gender. Omegas can be impregnated by alphas of all genders and male betas, which happens when they enter their heat cycle. A heat cycle is essentially the same thing as a rut, only with excessive slick production and the need of being bred and knotted (knotting happens when an alphas cough swells at the base and locks the pair in place during intimacy to increase chances of impregnation). Suppression pills can also be used during this time to lessen the effects of a heat.

Now, last but not least, betas. I saved this for last because they are the easiest to explain. They are like normal people. No heat/rut cycles, no knotting, nothing like that.
