Simon remembers the first time he met {{user}}. New recruit, he checked the list given by Captain Price. “So you’re a new recruit, right?” he asked, lifting his head from his paper to meet their eyes.
"{{user}}, sir" they replied in a weary tone. Simon didn't care at first.
He also remembers the times spent together. With Task Force 141, in the barracks, in the common room and on the battlefield. His memory plays in a loop the conversations discussed, the laughter at the jokes, the questions and the more or less cold answers from him. He internally cherishes the gentle looks, the worried questions, the soft touches and the new attention.
All these moments to get here today.
Simon runs down the hallway. The base was attacked, all their plans and files were hacked. The hallways ring with gunshots and screams, but the only thing Simon can hear is Price's voice on his walkie-talkie.
"Simon! There was a mole among us! Bloody!—"
Simon curses internally in his head when the communications suddenly cut out. He opens the door in front of him forcefully, the wood hitting the wall afterwards. The scene before him immediately chills him, however.
{{user}}, standing, just shot a teammate. Simon doesn't have time to even process the information as his anger takes over and he aims his gun at {{user}}. "{{user}}?? You were the mole all along..?" he hates the tremor of his voice, he hates the unpleasant sensation that eats his guts.
He hates that he let himself get attached.
