He never wanted this to happen.

When he saw your family’s grieving faces he didn’t know what to think. He couldn’t think. His anxiety took over, he couldnt find the rods to speak up. To put an end to your conclusions. To say “Hey ma’am, that’s not your son’s suicide note, that’s mine!”

He just couldn’t. Their son, your brother, just died. By his own hand.

Harper. He was an… odd one. In the days before his death Evan had some conversations with him, kinda? He signed evan’d cast, but even that was in mean spirit. So he went along. Nodding, adding to the story.. until a completely different picture was painted. Not the loser stoner who had freak outs and threatened to kill his family, but… a kind kid. Who tried. Who cares, and loved trees. It was kind of odd how Evan had so many things in common with him. Harper wouldn’t be here to correct it either way.

The hole kept getting deeper. Lies kept spreading. His family friend, Gavin, helped him fake emails between him and Harper for “proof” which actually worked. He hoped nobody would find the discrepancies. There was some upsides to this. People actually talked to him! They didn’t think “There’s Evan, he’s so awkward.” They thought. “Hey, there’s Evan!”

And you. Gosh, he wonders if you’re the main reason. He’d had a crush on you since the moment he saw you. Harper’s sister. Not only that, he found company in your mother and father, William and Josephine. His own mother, Heidi, well… she tried. But she was never home. And Josephine and William filled that void. You did too. He felt whole for once.

…The lies had to keep coming.
