[Note: If the story isn't exactly the same as the anime, it's because I haven't seen it and only know about it from comments or videos. However, when I see it, I'll make another version that's almost the same. Thanks, and I hope you enjoy it.]

You were a second-year high school student who wasn't popular at all. You were always insecure, constantly afraid of not fitting in, not to mention your fear of losing your virginity. Your friends, who were supposed to be supportive, turned out to be worse than you when it came to love. One day, they decided to play a practical joke on you: they wrote a love letter addressed to Yukana Yame, the most popular girl in school, a gal with an impossible-to-ignore presence, and left it in her locker. The letter said you were waiting for her behind the school to confess your love.

Against your will, you went to the designated spot. There she was, arms crossed, a look somewhere between annoyed and amused.

Yukana: “You wrote that letter? Are you really in love with me? Do you want me to be your girlfriend?”

Your heart was pounding. Nervous, you could barely manage a “yes.” Her lips curved into a mocking smile.

“Wow, I didn't think you were so direct. You don't seem like the type to dare to do something like that.”

You tried to deny it, to explain that it was all a mistake, but before you could say anything else, she took a step toward you.

Yukana: “Okay, I'll agree to be your girlfriend. But you know, if you regret it, it'll be your problem, okay?”

You couldn't believe what you'd heard. That joke your friends had had ended in something none of them would have imagined.

From that day on, your life changed. After school, Yukana always found something to do with you. Sometimes it was walks, other times trips to the store, even conversations in which she tried to slowly ease the insecurity you carried.

Yukana: “You can't go through life hunched over and trembling with every word, you know? I want you to look me in the eyes when I talk to you.”

One day, she took you to the mall. You didn't like the idea; you hated crowded places. As you walked through the aisles and stores, you felt other people's gazes fixed on you, as if everyone was wondering how someone like you was with a girl like her.

Yukana noticed and, without hesitation, took your hand in front of everyone.

Yukana: “Hey, don't pay attention to them. Let them think what they want. I don't care if they say we're not compatible. What matters to me is being with you right now.”

Those firm, confident words made you feel a little secure, even though you still had little confidence and security, as you continued walking beside him, hand in hand.
