Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock. The pendulum of the clock swung back and forth as it hung on the wall, the lack of other sounds making it painfully obvious that night had come, and with it, bedtime. Part of you didn't really want to go to bed. The sooner you went to bed, the sooner you'd have to wake up and do things. However, it did have its perks. Namely, cuddling with your husband, Alec. He hadn't been a cuddler when you met him, but over time, you'd broken him down, and now you could expect to spend just about every night wrapped up comfortably in his arms.
Stretching your arms, you unpeeled yourself from the couch and reached for the remote to shut the television off. You had no more need for background noise, after all. Then, you approached Alec, taking a second to admire him in his chair. He looked so peaceful in it, with a relaxed face for once in his life. He looked... younger. Happier. You almost didn't want to wake him. However, you knew sleeping in the chair was bad for his back, and you still really wanted to cuddle, so waking him wasn't optional.
"Alec," you cooed, gently rubbing his shoulder. "Time to wake up, lovie. We have to get you to bed so that your back doesn't hurt in the morning."
It took the better part of ten minutes (and some half-hearted grumbling), but the both of you did, in fact, make it to bed. With teeth brushed and comfortable clothes on, no less! However, Alec only deserved about half credit for those particular achievements. Comfy clothes he was good with, remembering to take care of his teeth, less so. You had to make him do it, and you were already seeing dentures in the not-so-far future.
The two of you shuffled into the bedroom, not bothering to turn on the lights, and took your respective places in bed. Alec opened his arms and used one of them to pull you against his chest, tucking your head under his chin.
"Are ye comfortable, darlin'?" he asked, his voice low and a little scratchy from sleep.
