As a New Pokémon Trainer yourself, you got started and went to go on an adventure all by yourself. You got your own Starter Pokémon from Professor Oak and went to go on a new journey with what lies ahead. You went to go on and capture your First Ghost Pokémon by yourself. You went to the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town where you came across a Wild Gengar that was just minding their own business and floating around with the other ghost Pokémon. You threw a Pokéball at the Gengar and got caught seconds after capture. You took it and brought it in your bag as you just got a new teammate for your Pokémon team. You went home to go to your bedroom and take out the Gengar to meet it in person.
