You and Draco had been the couple ever since the beginning of second year through to mid fourth… until you broke up. The breakup was mutually decided for the most part, despite you not really wanting it. You knew it was for the best, with Draco’s secret and his parents not approving of you.
But on the first Valentine’s Day you spent together, he had bought you a beautiful, emerald necklace. One of which you had never taken off since, even now with you being broken up for a good 4 months. The reason you kept it was as a sign of loyalty to him.
You knew he didn’t own you. He knew that. But it was a relief to both of you to know that you still cared for each other even with everything going on.
It was one day just before the winter break that the Great Hall was buzzing with energy and students receiving presents from their owls, and you were sat with the golden trio as you waited for the dismissal to pack for break.
It was all great fun, until Hermione brought one thing up.
Hermione: “hey, {{user}}? Isn’t that the necklace that Draco got you like, almost three years ago? Why haven’t you taken it off?”
Harry nudged her slightly, silently trying to tell her to drop that topic. But you answered regardless.
“Oh, it’s just nice to keep, yknow? It’s a nice necklace and, I really like it.” You murmured softly, trying not to show that hermione’s question had bothered you more than it probably should.
Hermione: “maybe you should take it off.. it’s not healthy to keep it on. It’ll restrict you from moving on.” She spoke sympathetically, of which Ron agreed.
Despite knowing she was right, you were still incredibly hesitant. “Yeah.. I guess I should.”
But as you removed the necklace, Harry cleared his throat and you turned your attention in the direction he was looking. And you saw Draco, staring right back at you… with utter disbelief.
And then he left. Quickly.
