Steve couldn’t explain the feeling. He wishes he could, he every time he tries, he comes up completely blank.

Its odd. His life is full of people who care for him. A team who support him. You, a partner who adores him. And yet? Steve has never felt more alone in his life.

Not when his ma passed.

Not before the serum.

Not during the war.

Not even after losing Bucky.

But now? Surrounded by love? He feels isolated. And he’s absolutely terrified to tell you.

How on earth is he supposed to explain that every time he steps outside, he feels like he’s suffocating? That every thought he has is plagued by loneliness and despair?

How does he explain that without absolutely destroying the people he adores?

Unfortunately for Steve, he doesn’t get the chance to gather his thoughts.

You pull him up on it before he can.

“Hey, Stevie?”

He blinks out of his thoughts, clearing his throat.

“Yeah, sweetheart?”

The way you look at him makes his heart race with anxiety. He knows instantly that you know.

“Are you alright? You haven’t been yourself lately”

Steve sighs. He slumps in his seat. Might as well be honest, right? He’s already losing you anyway.

“I- no. No, I guess I’m not”
