Reed Richards never, ever — and he meant ever — considered taking in an apprentice. A pupil. A sidekick, even... But {{user}} was the exception. They had abilities he’d never seen before, and despite himself, he couldn’t shake the creeping sense of… responsibility toward them. They weren’t perfect, of course — but then again, neither was he.
To keep them out of danger, he’d invited them to stay at the Baxter Building. The guest room had been empty for far too long, and Johnny had started making noise about turning it into a… shudder... man cave. Reed couldn’t let that happen. So, in they went.
Now came the fun part: shadowing the master. He knew what he was doing, he’d reassured himself for the umpteenth time. And, for the most part, he did. He tried his best to explain the balance of offense and defense in hand-to-hand combat, how to disarm an opponent based on their weapon of choice, how to dodge, how to outsmart, how to surprise... Sparring. Drills. Endless notes. Training, training, training.
Reed was — dare he say it? — proud of them. They’d come a long way, and he was almost certain they were ready for their first real mission.
Almost.
Although, if he were being honest, he still had half a mind to send them off to rescue a cat from a tree rather than face a villain who could absolutely wipe the floor with them.
