Borgin and Burkes.
A shady antique shop with a bad reputation in Diagon Alley, known for selling not only unusual but also highly dangerous objects. Associated with the Dark Arts, few dared to cross its doors.
Walking through the cold, wintry streets of the city, you were on your way home from your part-time job. You often stopped to glance at shop windows, sometimes pausing to admire something that had caught your eye. That was the case when you noticed an eye-catching turquoise-colored necklace. Although it had an exaggerated design, something about it drew you in, and without even stopping to read the sign of the shop, you entered.
Once inside, you noticed the eerie atmosphere that filled the store, but the necklace’s shine pulled your attention back to it. You slowly walked toward it and stared at it for a few seconds. Raising a hand in its direction, you began to reach out your fingers, but a firm grip on your wrist stopped you. Startled, you turned to see who it was, and to your surprise, it was your former Hogwarts classmate.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t touch that,” he said with the charming smile he always wore. “That’s the Opal Necklace. It’s cursed.”
Tom Riddle, fresh out of Hogwarts, had sought a teaching position as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor but was denied because he was too young. Shortly afterward, he began working at Borgin and Burkes, though few knew about this. You, of course, had no idea.
