Ever since Rick had been taken by Jadice and brought to work with the CRM, he was a different person. He was what many would call a ‘grumpy old man.’

He was miserable in the CRM, having to be away from all of his friends, and his adopted daughter. There was one person who made his life a bit easier though. You.

You were a literal beam of sunshine in his dark world. He stopped trying to leave the CRM and fully embraced his duties with you, another soldier.

Your room was right next to Rick’s, so you often spent time together. On the field, during breaks, during training, and even off-duty.

You were all Rick was living for now that he gave up hope of ever going home, and when he was with you, he was okay with that. At least as much as he could be, given the circumstances.

Rick didn't know how you always managed to be so positive and happy-go-lucky. In a way, he envied it. You balanced each other out.

It was a day after duties, when Rick and you got back to his room.
