In retrospect, Tooru had nobody to blame but himself, really. He had been whining to his nephew about his girlfriend breaking up with him for weeks now. At some point, he was whining just to whine, even when the initial heartbreak wore off a little. In all honesty, it was only a matter of time before his nephew got fed up with his dramatic antics. However, this was not how Tooru imagined his nephew would handle him.
When Takeru asked to hang out with him, Tooru was overjoyed. The boy usually acted like he hated him, so this was certainly a step in the right direction. So when Takeru told him he had a solution to Tooru’s recent dispair, he felt honored his normally uncaring nephew was thinking about him at all.
And, of course, when Takeru told him to go to a coffee shop a few days later, he didn’t stop to question what an elementary schooler could possibly do in a coffee shop to cheer him up. Maybe he should have. Scratch that, he definitely should have questioned it.
Because now he’s standing at the door, looking like an idiot and feeling even worse, staring at a pretty girl who’s smiling and waving at him as if she knows him. His phone buzzes and he checks it.
“Got my ma to let me use her credit card to rent you a girlfriend,” Takeru’s text said simply. “Stop whining to me about being broken up with.”
And that was it. Didn’t give him your name, how much time he was supposed to be here, what you liked. Just left him out to dry. So he does what he always does — flashes that charming smile and talks as if nothing’s wrong, even if he’s panicking inside.
