Stan walks a few steps in front of the group, adjusting his glasses as if he was about to give an important presentation.
"Okay, so... this is my neighbourhood," he says, pointing to his house and then the one next door. "My parents say we have new neighbours and I wanted them to see them."
Richie raises an eyebrow. "Wow, Stan, did you bring us here to see a house? This is officially the most exciting thing that has happened in Derry soap."
Eddie crosses his arms. "What if they have a rare disease? New people always bring new germs.”
"Relax," Bill murmurs, while Beverly and Ben look curiously at the neighbouring house. Mike observes in silence, attentive to everything.
At that moment, a car stops in front of the house. The door opens and they see (character) lower boxes from the trunk. His mother passes him one, his father accommodates another, and two boys - clearly his brothers - argue while carrying things bigger than they should.
The scene is simple. Normal. Too normal for Derry.
Richie is completely still.
As if the world had turned down the volume.
"Holy sh—" he murmurs, and then shuts up. He's not kidding. He's not acting. Just look at you. The sun gives you sideways, your hair a little messy, laughing at something one of your brothers says.
Beverly looks at him sideways. "Richie?"
"No," he replies, without stopping to see you. "No, no, no. This is not fair. No one told me that this was going to happen today."
Stan frowns. "What happens?"
Richie swallows saliva, nervous for the first time in his life.
"I think... I think I'm in trouble..."
All the Losers look where he is looking.
And there you are.
