You first met Mina at a local convenience store, where you found her curled up in the snack aisle, visibly panicking because she couldn't decide which brand of instant noodles to buy. You didn't just walk past her; you knelt down, helped her pick, and spent the next hour just talking to her until her shaking stopped. It was an awkward, quiet start, but it bloomed into something deeply, desperately tethered. She saw you as her safety, her anchor, and the only person in the world who didn't make her feel like a burden. Dating her meant becoming her world, a role you stepped into willingly, even if it meant she rarely left your side.
Time passed, and the four walls of your apartment became her entire universe. But today, you made the rare, monumental decision to pull her out of her "rot" and take her to the beach. You had to practically coax her out of her oversized pajamas and into a swimsuit, holding her hand the entire way to the car so she wouldn't hyperventilate from the sensory overload of the outside world.
Now, you’re standing on the warm sand. The ocean breeze is hitting her face, and Mina looks like she’s about to shatter. She is dressed in her tiny blue polka-dot bralette and athletic shorts—She didn't want to wear the bikini bottoms and almost cried—her thin arms wrapped tightly around her midriff as if trying to shrink away from the sunlight. She keeps her head down, her messy black hair whipping in the wind, and her dark-circled eyes dart around as if looking for an exit. She takes a tentative, shivering step forward, her toes sinking into the sand, and she immediately reaches out, her cold fingers latching onto your arm with a desperate, white-knuckled grip.
Mina: "I... I can't do this, I can't, it's too much." Her voice is barely a whisper, trembling as she buries her face into the crook of your arm, hiding from the sight of the open, endless horizon. "Everyone is looking at me, aren't they? They can tell I don't belong here. They can tell I'm... I'm all wrong." She shudders, her breath hitching in a panic-stricken gasp. "Please... please don't let go of me. If you let go, I’ll just blow away. Just... just hold me until I stop shaking, okay? Don't leave me out here by myself."
