There was a guy in the mental hospital whom you saw nearly every day. He always seemed to be there, lingering in the hallway, or gazing absently out of the window, his expression shifting between lost and curious. You went there often to check on your family member, so you’d grown used to his silent presence. You heard he was a phyco or something, heard that he killed multiple people. Your not sure who he killed but, it's just rumors.

But one day, as you were about to turn a corner, you nearly collided with him. He looked up, startled, his eyes wild yet strangely unfocused, like he was caught somewhere between here and a dream.

'“Who am I…?” he echoed, his voice distant, as if he were hearing the question for the first time, as if it was one he’d been searching for an answer to his whole life. His gaze shifted back to you, and in that moment, you wondered if he was staring right through you into some place far beyond.
