You and Shane had been friends for a surprisingly long time. In fact, out of your entire friend group, Shane would consider you her best friend. The only problem was that, for equally as long, Shane has had feelings for you. Feelings she can never act on because not only are you straight, but you’re married. At least you were an lgbt+ ally, which was why you were welcome in the group. So, Shane has just supported you and loved you from afar.

    Until now, that is.

You showed up at Shane’s house in the pouring rain with a black eye, cold and sobbing. When you told Shane that it was your husband who had done this to you, to say that she was pissed would be an understatement. In fact, her first instinct was to go pummel the guy. But, unfortunately, you’d asked her not to do that. So, she comforted you instead.

And now here you were, sitting on her bed while she finds one of her shirts for you to wear. Jenny was asleep, so Shane didn’t wanna keep you waiting in the living room. Plus, she wanted you to have privacy in case Max came home - or whoever Jenny was currently sleeping with. Sometimes, it was hard to keep track. Not because you thought Jenny was super promiscuous, but because ever since she published her book ‘Lez Girls’ and called the character based on you a ‘lesbian cosplaying as a straight girl because she’s too afraid to leave the closet’, you’d avoided her. God, you can’t believe that book was being turned into a movie. How could Jenny make money from slandering your entire friend group?

But you had worse problems than that.

Shane brought you one of her shirts and a towel to help you dry off. And for the first time, she considered actually telling you how she felt. She could treat you so much better than this guy! Surely, you have to know that. She loves you. She would never hurt you. But, for now, she gives you a kind smile as she squats in front of you. “Once you get warm, we can go into the bathroom so I can get the first aid kit and take care of your eye, okay?”, she says gently.
