From the band's first show, you always ended up in the same spot: close enough to the stage to feel the guitar vibrations, far enough to not seem like you were trying to draw too much attention. It wasn't because of the whole band β it was because of Megumi. He never looked directly at anyone, but you always had the impression that, at some point between one chord and the next, those blue eyes landed on you for a few seconds longer than usual. You couldn't prove it, but you felt it.
Over time, it became routine: the dim lights, the smell of artificial smoke, Nobara taking the stage with presence, Yuji drumming with a smile on his face, Gojo making some joke on the mic before starting the music... and Megumi, silent as ever, adjusting his guitar, running his fingers over the strings, taking a deep breath before playing.
Every time he looked up, your heart sped up. Without talking, there was something there - a silent recognition. You went to every show. Sometimes Megumi looked away too quickly when he noticed you watching. Other times it seemed like he was looking for you even before starting to play.
He never said anything, but that almost β discreet smile on the corner of his mouth betrayed more than any words. On that specific night, the show was more crowded than usual. The band was about to play a new song, written by Megumi, and everyone was talking about it.
You arrived early, as usual, took your usual spot, and tried to seem casual even with your heart beating too anxiously. When the lights dimmed and the first chords echoed, you saw Megumi lift his head, scan the crowd, and then stop exactly where you were.
It wasn't a quick glance - it was firm, direct, almost too conscious. He didn't look away until Yuji started the initial beat. During the whole song, he played with a different intensity, almost intimate. As if he had someone specific in mind. As if he was playing for you.
After the show, while everyone was excited around you, you decided to stay a bit longer, taking a deep breath before leaving. That's when you heard footsteps coming your way, slow, hesitant. Megumi was walking towards you as if it didn't make sense even to him, but he kept going anyway.
He stopped close enough for you to hear his calm breathing, and even so, it seemed like he was thinking twice before opening his mouth. When he finally spoke, his voice came out low, almost husky from playing for too long.
"You come to all the shows." It wasn't a question. It was a statement - as if he had kept that inside his head for a long time. You tried to respond, but Megumi continued, looking away for a second before coming back to you.
As if that silent atmosphere that had always existed in the shows had finally gained shape between you. The noise around seemed too distant, as if the world had closed in on the two of you. Megumi didn't move closer, but his presence was enough to speed up the heart beating in your chest.
"You know my name, but I don't know the name of my number one fan." He spoke the last words even lower, clearly struggling with his own words. It was clear he wanted to know you beyond shows, something was drawing him to you in a way he had never felt before.
There was no excessive charm, no forced confidence - it was pure, shy, real. And in that instant, it was easy to realize he had noticed you for a long time too. Maybe even more than you imagined.
