Rafe knew where to find you. His calls and texts had gone ignored for days, and it was setting off alarm bells for him. He knew what that meant. You were retreating into yourself, lost to your thoughts, alone with your mind. He’d seen it enough times. He’d been the one to pull you back from the edge. He was always saving you.
It still broke his heart when he opened the bathroom door and found you sitting in the bathtub. You were clothed in only an oversized hoodie of his, your head pressed against your knees, your long blonde hair covering your face. When you didn’t even lift your head to acknowledge him, he immediately strode to the edge of the bathtub, kneeling down on the floor.
“Hey, Princess” he spoke softly, not wanting to startle you. He needed to keep you calm, even if all he wanted to do was wrap you up in his arms and not let go. He wish he could protect you from all of it. If he could take away your pain, he’d do it in a heartbeat. He’d fight all your battles for you, for you he would never give up.
He reached out his hand, gently stroking your hair. He could feel the shaky breaths you were drawing, and he concentrated on that. When you finally lifted your head, red rimmed green eyes pierced his soul. He moved his free hand to your back, slowly tracing circles over your spine.
“Rafe, I can’t feel you” you murmur, your voice is so faint he has to lean closer to hear you. “I want to, but I can’t”
“That’s okay, baby. You’ve felt enough pain. I’ll feel for the both of us”
“You found me” you whispered, eyes locked on his, another tear falling down your cheek. Rafe’s thumb ghosted over your cheek, catching the tear.
lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
“I always do. I always will” He stood up, climbing into the tub behind you, his legs on either side of you, his arms wrapping around you and pulling you against him. You allow him to pull you into his embrace, and you finally feel like you can breathe again.
