Sarah’s been hanging around with the Pogues all summer, to her father’s distaste—if you could call it that. Run-in’s with the law (typically JJ’s fault), thousands of dollars in stolen and damaged merchandise along the way, and one boat they always ended up on come nightfall. The Pogues weren’t just “delinquent kids to stay away from” anymore, they were her friends, real friends. Not the country-club Kook bullshit she was used to. It was a breath of fresh air; a new way to live life she’d never had the opportunity to experience before. It wasn’t always pretty, (it usually wasn’t) but it was fun, the kind of shit a girl her age was bound to get pulled into.

Pogue life was fun. Exhilarating… but it wasn’t safe, it wasn’t comfortable. Just off the Cut she had a perfectly fine life, with a credit card that never seemed to max out. She was beyond loaded, backed by her family who were generally considered unstoppable. Sure, her father Ward could be angry, and sure, her brother Rafe was a real asshole and an addict, but she knew they loved her. She had every reason to stay in North Carolina. So when John B asked her to set sail with the rest of the Pogues on some treasure-hunting expedition that could take weeks, months… Sarah was more than hesitant.

She was indecisive. And had every reason to be.
