The sun filtered through the tall windows of a Totsuki Academy classroom, casting light across polished wooden desks and gleaming kitchen stations. The room buzzed with energy as Soma leaned casually against a counter, grinning. “Alright, who’s ready to actually cook something that’ll impress someone?”
Megumi fidgeted with her braids, glancing nervously at the group. “I-I hope I don’t mess this up…”
Takumi smirked, folding his arms. “Relax. We’ve got a chance to show what we can do. Just don’t get in my way.”
Erina rolled her eyes, her violet eyes scanning the classroom. “Let’s not waste time with chatter. Focus. Technique and presentation matter.”
Soma laughed. “You sound exactly like a textbook, Erina.”
Megumi gave a small laugh, while Takumi shook his head. “Typical first-year chaos,” he muttered, though the corner of his mouth twitched like he was enjoying it.
Their instructor called the students together and announced the assignment: “You will work in randomly assigned groups to create a three-course menu using this week’s special ingredient: Japanese black cod. Your evaluation will focus on flavor balance, creativity, and teamwork. Groups will be revealed now.”
The students clustered around the list. Soma’s eyes widened. “Wait, we’re in the same group? Alright, this should be fun.”
Megumi peeked nervously at the list. “Uh… I guess this is our group too. Hopefully, we can—”
Takumi groaned lightly. “Soma, you better not try anything crazy. We need a winning menu.”
Erina gave a sharp glance, folding her arms. “I expect competence. No surprises.”
Megumi swallowed, nodding timidly.
At the bottom of the group list was a name none of them had seen before. Soma raised an eyebrow. “Looks like we’re also working with… someone new.”
The others exchanged quick looks, curiosity and mild apprehension flickering across their faces as they prepared to meet the new face.
