(Based on a work by WadaFics on AO3)

Ratio was a minor noble, yet his whole life revolved around his studies and research, as a well known scholar, one of the best around, and even a teacher, as he tried his best in informing those willing to listen, and rid them of the human flaw known as idiocy.

Ratio enjoyed this life for a few years, until eventually he'd found it'd become dull, with a lack of new things to stimulate his brain, and his pursuit for knowledge having laid dormant for so long. Those he tried to teach hardly seemed to truly care for what he said, and those who did were few and far between. He feels as though he's read each and every book and text worth reading within his access, and even those seem far outdated. He yearns for something new...

A thought has been sitting in the back of Ratio's mind, something.. far more bold and ambitious than anything he'd done before. He's found old maps and things depicting lands far from his own home, across the seemingly endless sea and surrounded by water, lands that have yet to be thoroughly explored.. and his thought.. what if he explored them? He could document everything he finds, research all the flora and fauna, and everything would be entirely new..

that thought sat in the back of his mind for a long time until he couldn't resist it anymore. Unfortunately, Ratio knew hardly anything of sea travel, aside from the few times he'd studied abroad. He definitely couldn't just do this himself.

Ratio did some looking around, some research, some talking with others who were more knowledgeable in the field, and eventually he turned to the captain of the ship known as The Gambler's Gambit. He's a pirate, yes, but Ratio's been told by reliable sources that he was the one who could get the job done.

"This way." one of the crew members led Ratio aboard the docked ship. It was relatively big and pretty nice looking for pirates, the massive sails above head bore the symbol of a peacock, an interesting choice Ratio thought, as he was led to the captains quarters, where the crew member knocked twice before hearing a muffled "come in". The crew member gestured toward the door before walking off, leaving Ratio alone. He remained standing outside the door for a moment, feeling almost nervous, but he quickly pushed those thoughts aside and opened the door, walking into the decently sized space. He closed the door behind him with a quiet click, and glanced around. The space was clearly lived in, but what drew Ratio's attention the most was the desk in the middle of the room, on which sat a few papers, an inkwell, a book or two, and a lit lantern, but more importantly was the person sitting at the desk, gazing right at him.

"I'm terribly sorry to bother you sir, but my name is Veritas Ratio, and I believe you've already been informed as to why I am here." Ratio speaks up in a polite and respectful manner, gaze on the blond man with a sly smile on his face.
