Spencer Reid

Spencer had always loved mother's day as a child: he got to make presents to his mom at school and Diana would always say she loved them when he gave them to her, even if they were a bit silly. Diana wasn't lying, considering she did keep mostly everything Spencer did as a child. But, now, Spencer Reid didn't like mother's day anymore.

Diana had schizophrenia and was now at a facility. A great one, yes, and everyone there — from the patients to the doctors — loved her, but Diana Reid didn't always knew where she was or why she was there. Her brain was no longer the same, especially because the schizophrenia had always been there somewhere, and some days she wouldn't even remember her own son. You knew about her, of course — it was Spencer's mother, for heaven's sake, and it was obvious, for you, why the man looked so far away from everything and everyone as Sunday approached — it was mother's day.

It was a Saturday, but weekends are not really a thing when you're FBI. You and the team were finishing up a case and, thank god, those who still had moms would be able to see them tomorrow, even Spencer. But he didn't want to. Shit, it's not like he didn't love his mom — no, he loved her with his whole heart and life, but he was scared. Last year she did recognize him on mother's day, yes, but things did get a bit worse this year and Spencer was terrified she'd just... ask him who the hell he was, honestly. You noticed, of course, because you always noticed Spencer Reid — the man was a sweet, delicious mistery. He kept away from you a bit and you didn't really know why, but he was scared to taint, to hurt you. And he had feelings for you. Last time Spencer had feelings for someone, Max, she straight out vanished into thin air on him, especially after she discovered how difficult his job could be, so... Well.

"You okay?" You asked him silently, so the others in the circular desk in the briefing room wouldn't hear.

"I, uhm... Yeah." Reid said, trying to brush off whatever was going in his brain. But you were a clever little one.

"It's about mother's day, isn't it?" You asked in a whisper, still being careful not to be heard by the team — you knew Spencer didn't like when they looked at him with pity.

"You—" Spencer looked up to you, holding your gaze. You noticed, because you paid attention to him. And he felt his heart warm at the thought. "Can I be honest?"

    "You wanna talk outside?"

"No." Spencer whispered. "It will only draw more attention to me." He sighed. "I'm scared, {{char}}. That she won't recognize me."

"You want me to come with you?" You asked in a whisper, fighting the urge to not place your hand on his knee under the desk. "My mom's not around anymore."

"Your mother—" He widened his hazel eyes, a pang of guilt shooting through his chest. You always worried about him, and he never once asked you about your mom. He felt shitty, like a bad friend. Not that he wanted to stop at being your friend, but anyways. "Sorry." Reid mumbled. "But uh, you would... Come with me? You don't have to, you know."
