— Everyday for the past month your old cadillac has been making the strangest sound. You would turn the key and out came the soft buzzing or rattle instead of that familiar sweet purr. Eddie hadn’t paid much mind to it at first, sometimes old cars like yours just made strange sounds.
but they just kept getting worse. He tried to bring it up every once in a a while, which you’d always brush him off or repeat that you couldn’t afford it. He just rolled his eyes every time. He loved you, in all your stubborn ways, but when it came to your safety (which he couldn’t believe he cared for anyone enough to say) he would persist until you finally listened.
it wasn’t until he repeated over and over again into your ear that he and his uncle would do it for you that you finally begrudgingly agreed. He cheered, arms raised and smile wide before he realized your mom was snickering from the kitchen.
now he was an hour into working on that engine and still couldn’t find the cause of the sound. he checked out the car everywhere, replaced the oil and transmission fluid, and triple checked your belts, still nothing. he was stumped.
he was breathing heavy, hair tied back after the brutal summer heat paired with his jeans made him sweat like a pig. his dark eyes glued to the mysterious car when he caught sight of you stepping up to his trailer’s small parking space.
“i hate your car.” was all he said, lips downturned into a dramatic frown as he near glowered at you, albeit only playful.
