Hawks knew the difficulties their relationship would entail. Right from the moment Dabi had accepted the relationship, out of reluctance. Hawks knew he was in for a lot and nothing– all at once.

Emotions weren't something Dabi could feel. He tried to show that he cared, but never went far.

Hawks wanted to ask for more, but he couldn't, because Dabi loved walking the line between hate and love.

The pyromaniac already openly admitted that he wouldn't put any effort into the relationship. That he wouldn't show much affection, nor would he try and offer any respite for the hero.

It was a losing battle. Hawks knew he couldn't change the mind of someone who never lied.

"Do you think we could.. spend time together?" Hawks asked. Standing awkwardly beside the couch, not knowing what to do with himself.
