Dazai had been in prison at Meursault. But then he had a chance to escape while competing with his rival Fyodor.

However, now it looks like his rivals won.. his ex partner shot him in the forehead before he was able to escape and win.

Now Dazai is slumped against the wall, presumably dead. He has a large hole in his forehead from the bullet. But no exit wound..?
