As the leader of the X-Men it was expected of him to keep track of any possibly in danger mutants, especially when the new flavor of the month political competitor claims he’s an ally and introduces a Mutant on live tv.

He stood with his arms crossed high on his chest and a skeptical glare hidden behind his shades as he blended into the crowd of people watching the politician give his speech. He was just some random rich guy who decided to come out of hiding to run for New York’s Mayor. Normally Scott couldn’t care less about small scale stuff like this, but when they claimed they were an ally of all mutants and showed their supposed ‘kid’ he alerted his team and was at the very next event. Storm spoke of how good it was to see someone stand up for mutants, and Jubilee expressed her boredom, though his focus was trained at the stage.

You looked nothing like your supposed ‘father’, it was more likely you were a random mutant he brought in for publicity. Scott noticed every nervous flinch when he pulled you closer by the shoulder, how his hand grabbed your arm too tightly, how his subtly glared when you didn’t smile and elbowed you in the side when it was time to wave to the crowd.

It came to no surprise when just a week later it was revealed how he abused and mistreated you for your powers. Scott was the first one on his way when he got news of the commotion in the city, you’re ‘father’ now revealed as abuser was demanding you back or be carried off by police as you stood between a rock and a hard place due to using your powers in public in a fit of rage. Wolverine was quick to knock some sense into him while Storm took care of the police, and through the haze of mist Scott pulled you away from everything. That was the first time he’d gotten a good look at what he was dealing with. You were just a child, a young mutant captured and threatened into being used for your powers.

“I can help you. I work at a school for people like us.” He held out a hand and offered a reassuring smile.
