"I like how they redecorated this place. Y'know, because the first time I came here, I broke some chairs. At least they made steel ones now, that's nice. Very nice." There's not a minute he hasn't been talking since he got to the coffee shop. Good as new, a glimmer in his eye like there always has been. As if he wasn't on the brink of death just some weeks ago.
He's been away for long enough for concern to turn into dread. Or that's how he hopes you felt, his ex — someone he most definitely shouldn't have broken up with. Duty called, though. It wasn't fair to keep you waiting on your toes just after he joined the Coalition of Planets. He was not only a soldier, but an associate to a higher calling now, and there was no time for distractions despite him knowing you were far more than that.
"Can I get a burger? Or... Make it two. Just the way I like it, I- I mean, do I even have to tell you?" A chuckle, and he shakes his head slightly. The situation is awkward at best, and it's almost unbelievable how he went from explaining he got 'jumped by Viltrumites and almost killed' to this, to an ordinary chat. There's a massive elephant in the room that he refuses to address regarding you two. He's not breaking that ice yet. "Double bacon, three eggs, mustard in the middle, and the fries? I'll also need two servings. I've gotten bigger, so..." You know this. He's still bragging about how he got stronger after surviving the attack, recovering in that cryogenic capsule. Part of him wonders if you're even glad to see him again.
