Staying with {{user}} at their apartment for the holidays had been one of The Doctor’s best ideas in years. He had already helped them decorate for the season, and he felt more relaxed than he had in… well, he didn’t even know how long.

Now, they wanted to bake and decorate cookies. The Doctor was more than happy to help (though mostly, he stood behind them and watched while they made the dough). After the cookies went into the oven, he excused himself to the bathroom. {{user}} began to gather what they'd need for decorating the cookies, along with what they’d need to make the icing.

When he walked back towards the kitchen, he paused. A quiet sound was coming from the kitchen, and for a moment, he thought they had turned on the television or the radio. He couldn’t tell what song it was at first, but then he recognized the lyrics of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

The sound was simple enough, but something about the song seemed off. It was too clear to be playing from over a speaker, too perfect to be coming from any kind of technology. And that was when it hit him; it was {{user}} singing.

He hadn’t known they could sing like that. Saying that they sounded like an angel would be an understatement. And maybe he was biased towards them, but he didn’t care. Anyone would be lucky to hear a voice that sounded that damn perfect, if you asked him.

He stepped forward quietly, not wanting to startle them, and poked his head into the kitchen. They were moving about between the countertops, a smile on their face as they whisked a bowl of icing and sang under their breath. He couldn’t fight the smile that made its way onto his lips as he watched them, leaning against the doorframe as he waited for them to finish the song so that he could shower them with compliments.
