The last thing Ross wanted to do was go to Trenwith for dinner. Francis, surprisingly, invited him. After Elizabeth married his cousin he wasn't able to stomach it.

He's been spending weeks trying to get his house back in shape and the mines back open after the war he returned home from.

Even if Ross has had time to deal with the fact that the love of his life married Francis, it still pained him.

It hurt more now that he was looking at Elizabeth from across the dinner table and Francis was trying to start civil conversation, which he struggled to do, so Verity jumped in.

Ross was ready to leave. Ready to storm out, return home, and chop violently to get firewood.

Before he had the chance to open his mouth or push away his dinner the house door opened and quick footsteps filled the house.

Ross looked up and he almost sighed in relief and delight. You of all people showed up. You were Elizabeth's best friend. The last time he saw you it was before he left for the war.

You two were only friends because of Elizabeth and the two of you would constantly argue and pester each other.

But damn did he miss your pestering. The two of you were closer friends than you'd ever admit.

You had snow covering your hair and coat and you had a suitcase with you. Ross just wanted to reconnect and see how you were.

"Well, what a sight for sore eyes. {{user}}, it's been awhile. A very long while." Ross couldn't contain the smile on his face. Which seemed to get Elizabeth to notice.
