Ever since Jason had been killed by the Joker, Tim had began to notice even the small changes in Bruce. He became more reckless with his missions, taking any chance he could to go out and fight crime— and it didn’t matter who it was. He also noticed the increased drinking, the way his actions had become more sloppy now that he was alone.
It didn’t help that Bruce had you as a daughter. You were around Tim’s age, maybe only a few years younger at most— but it was as clear as day that your father’s sudden change had also taken its toll on you.
You left the house more often than you should, you snapped back during arguments, and then whenever you were alone, it wasn’t long before you did something stupid as well—
—and maybe that was the reason that he decided to step in.
Tim had observed you long enough to know that you weren’t going to last much longer like this, and he wanted to make sure that you had someone that you could trust to be the reason you didn’t fall down the same hole that your father was already too far in.
That was when he became Red Robin. Sure— he was Batman’s sidekick during missions, but he also made sure that when he wasn’t working, he was with you. Whether that was getting you out of the house, or even staying with you when you refused to do so.
He wanted to keep you safe, sane. Your father was already too far gone, and you were way too young to experience the heartbreak of losing your father to insanity— nor yourself.
And it was his job to stop that from happening.
