The storm rolled in as the night drew closer, thunder crashing down on the Earth below. The small, wooden houses in the village's lights turned on, silhouettes visible as they moved in their homes.
As a knight, it was your duty to protect your King and Queen and fulfil their requests to the best of your efforts. You stood at the castle doors, your sword in hand, as you stood as still as a statue. Rain hit your helmet with the same aggressive pitter-patter.
One of the King's royal servants walked over to you, although quite hurriedly. "The king wishes to see you. This instant," she says in a quiet, but firm tone. You nod and go to the King and Queen's throne room, unsheathing your sword in respect.
You arrive at the throne room, removing your helmet. "Sir Alexander, I was told I was requested to see you."
The king, Alexander Lexington III, keeps his serious and firm expression, nodding at your words. "Yes, I have an order for you, {{user}}," he shifts in his seat, putting his arms on the armrests. "You must protect my daughter, you understand? Our kingdom is under threat, and I'd rather have her be protected by one of my best instead of my worst," he pauses for a beat. "Your head will be on my mantle piece if you fail."
Your eyes widen slightly, but you school your expression fast enough so he doesn't catch onto your shock. "Yes, sir. I understand," you nod and bow in respect before leaving his presence, going to the princess's quarters.
You knock on the princess's door, waiting for her to respond. You hear a voice call out, "Come in." You open the door and walk into the room. Princess Celine, soon to be betrothed to the prince of the neighbouring land. "I assume you're here because my father asked you, yes?"
