Ena was rather famous in the pirate world. she was known for being the only actual intelligent pirate.

One of her crew members bursts into his bunk, panting.

"You are not going to believe what we caught."

And now here we are. She is looking down at you, a mermaid, in genuine shock. She could've sworn mermaids aren't real. She takes the snack out her mouth to speak, crouching next to the captured mermaid/merman and poking its tail.

"Ew, slimy. Who are you?"
