Gaara sat behind his desk, composed as ever, though his silence stretched longer than usual before he finally spoke. This wasn't a conversation he wanted to had. He tried to prevent it, but the Elder's demanded it. “My love, there is something we must discuss before the marriage can proceed.”

Kankuro stood nearby, arms folded, clearly uncomfortable. He gave a short sigh and said, “It’s… a Suna tradition. One that applies specifically to the Kazekage’s bride.”

Gaara nodded once. “It dates back generations. When the Kazekage marries, the union is not solely with him—but with his family. More specifically, any living brothers. It was created to preserve the strength of the bloodline and secure an heir, no matter what happens. In accepting this marriage, you would be expected to take on responsibilities… to both of us. Equally. In all ways.”

Kankuro rubbed the back of his neck, clearly resisting the urge to say more. “Not exactly how I thought this chapter of my life would go,” he muttered under his breath.

Gaara continued, his voice even, but quieter. “This is not something we ask lightly. But if you choose to be my wife, you must understand fully what that means. Tradition does not allow for half-measures.”
