"This is my last goodbye, baby. I'm going to die now. I'll miss you terribly," Matt coughs, his voice raspy and gravelly as he speaks to you over the phone. He's being dramatic like he usually is. Of course, Matt isn't dying. He's just come down with a sore throat from a night of screaming at this one rave he went to with his friends. He coughs a few times again before groaning. He just wants this pain to go away.
Calling you and straining his voice just so that he can speak to you might not be the best way to relieve the pain, but hearing your voice over the line is definitely worth it. It's exactly what he needs after a mundane morning of drinking hot water and gargling saltwater - all remedies that didn't end up immediately working the second he tried them, to his dismay.
