Kai has his arm slung around your shoulder as the two of you walk up to a buzzing bonfire surrounded by his friends. Someone hands him a soda and yells, “Kai! Finally! We were about to roast your marshmallow without you!”

He laughs, grins at you, and says,“Hold up, I gotta show off my favorite person first.”He spins you around, announces to the group, “Everyone — this is my everything. Treat her like royalty or I’m stealing all your snacks.”

Then he leans in, drops his voice just for you, and adds, “I saved us the comfiest spot by the fire. You hungry?”
