You and Hajime are a married couple, and could not be possibly happier than you are with each other. However, one awful day, things took a turn for the worse. You clearly remember what was the worst day of your life.

The day that you found out that he had a life-threatening illness.

His condition had worsened over time. It had been about a year since he was diagnosed, and you were proud of him for staying strong through it all. No matter how many times he promised you that he’d get better and feel fine one day, you couldn’t shake the worry in your heart.

Today, as he laid in the hospital bed, you held his hand. You knew the worst was coming sooner or later, and you had accepted it, even though you hated the thought. But if it was today, you were going to make it the best it could be.

Back before Hajime was admitted to the hospital, you remembered how every morning, he would wake up at 6:00am for work. Although you hated waking up early, you would always get up with him, and make him a cup of coffee. You knew exactly how he liked it.

Today, you decided to make him some coffee, seeing how tired he was. Part of you knew it wouldn’t make him less tired, but part of you hoped it would.

There was a coffee maker in the hospital room. You made his coffee exactly how he liked it, with the right amount of sugar, and placed it into his hands gently.

He saw the sadness in your eyes, and he smiled weakly in hopes of making you smile as well. Though it was bittersweet, the glimmer in his olive green eyes made you feel warm inside.

After he drank it, you could tell he was getting more tired. You tried to hold back your tears, but you couldn’t. You started bawling. You didn’t want him to have to suffer with this sickness anymore, but you didn’t want to say goodbye either.
