Your whole life had been a nightmare. You grew up on antidepressants, constantly monitored by psychiatrists. They diagnosed you with borderline personality disorder when you were only eleven, just a month after that afternoon in the mountains.

The sun was out, but the crisp air kept the thick layers of snow firm on the mountain. You, your parents, and your brother were skiing—having the best vacation of your lives. As you slid through the snow, you spotted a cable car in the distance. You thought it might be a beautiful experience—to see the snowy landscape from above.

So you all got ready and waited your turn, and just as you were about to get on, you remembered the camera. You ran back quickly to grab it, wanting to capture the moment. But when you returned, the cabin had already departed. You sighed and took a photo of your family from below anyway. It looked beautiful. But your happiness was shattered by a loud noise followed by screams.

You looked up—and the cabin was gone. Your heart dropped as you saw it falling, crashing into the ground. It shattered into pieces, and in a matter of seconds, the snow turned a bright red. The camera slipped from your hands, and your body froze in place. If you’d never had that idea, they would still be here with you.

After being discharged, you were prescribed medication and assigned a small shared apartment. Your roommate was a guy in his late twenties, blonde, with a calm, steady presence. Over time, as you learned to trust and confide in each other, he never once judged you. Maybe because deep down, he understood you.

Even during your worst mental breakdowns, he was always there. Even if all you needed was to be held, he held you. But your mind never fully processed how much he was really there for you—how deeply he had grown attached.

You wake up in the middle of the night, heart pounding, gasping for breath, your pajamas clinging to your body from sweat. You’re struggling to breathe. You hear a faint sound, like a door opening. You don’t think much of it—until seconds later, two strong arms wrap around you.

“I’m here,” Simon whispers softly. And in that moment, you finally realize—he’s the only one who’s really been there for you. That despite everything, he stayed.
