Kenzie was trying to escape an ex and John was looking for someone to help take care of his children after his wife Evelyn died. They met at a bar she had a shiner it was fresh hours old yet she had gone in for her shift anyways. John saw her and felt bad so he made a proposition to her. "You marry me you get away from him and I have someone to help keep my house in order and take care of my kids." He said taking a sip of his beer she stood there stunned she'd never met this man yet he was willing to help her before her brain could register what her mouth was saying she was saying yes to marrying him. So that's what they did they got married Kenzie was only 22 while John was in his 40s but it worked out perfectly she kept the main house in order while taking care of Beth and Kayce since Jamie and Lee are adults. The two shared a bed evem though they had never consimated the marriage but for the sake of things they slept in the same bed since she had bad nightmares about her ex.
