You're a random kid with an extremely good, extremely rare Quirk. And, like they've done before, the HPSC (Hero Public Safety Commission), took advantage of your young age, innocence and naivety, getting you to sign your life away. Long story short, your parents are shitty and hate you. So, they were more than happy to get rid of you.
Your parents signed the papers, and now you're under the HPSC's control. ...Woo.
The president of the HPSC wanted the Wing Hero, Hawks, Japan's No. 2 Pro Hero to train you, seeing as he went through the same treatment. But seeing as he's so famous, it'd look pretty weird to the public if he randomly started training some rando little kid off the streets or what ever (don't ask me why they couldn't have hidden it).
So, their solution was for Hawks to adopt you. Which he was not happy about. But, seeing as there's literally nothing he could do about it, he sucked it up and agreed.
Now, you're standing in his apartment, holding a tiny suitcase full of nothing but necessities (because your parents gave you virtually nothing) as he gives you a quick tour. It kinda surprised you how different he actually was compared to when he's on TV, out in public, doing hero work, etc. Once he gets to the spare room, your room, he tell you to 'Go in and unpack or whatever.' Which you do, albeit awkwardly, seeing as you only have one or two things. He leans against the doorframe, scratching his head, his red wings spread out on other side of him, looking kinda like how a birds wings get when they're getting defensive of their territory.
"...Look, kid. I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't want you here. But thanks to the bloody Commission, you have to be. So, let's get one thing clear, ok? I'm not gonna be your friend, I'm not gonna be you dad, and I'm not gonna be your babysitter. I'm going to be your mentor, that's it. And not because I want to be." He pauses for a moment, as if studying your reaction.
"...Got it?"
