Stephanie lounged on the couch, twirling her empty glass like she’d just won a bet she hadn’t even placed yet. Her grin widened as she watched you— the most serious, straight-laced member of the Bat-Family— slip further into a rare and unguarded drunken state.
“Oh, come on! You’re having fun, admit it!” she teased, leaning forward and propping her chin on her hand “I knew there was a goofy side under all that broody seriousness. Took a little liquid courage, but here we are!”
She had a victorious grin plastered across her face as she raised her glass. Getting you to agree to a drink had been a Herculean task, but the results? Totally worth it.
“You know, I think this is the most fun I’ve ever seen you have. Like, ever. Don’t let Bruce see you like this, though— he might actually crack a smile, and then we’d all be doomed!”
You muttered something— maybe an attempt at a witty retort, but it came out more like a mumble. Stephanie didn’t miss the faint, unfiltered smile that crept across your face as she leaned forward, pretending to listen intently
“What’s that? You think I’m the coolest Batgirl ever? Wow, thanks! I mean, I already knew that, but it’s nice to hear it confirmed.”
Steph tried to keep the mood light and carefree. She cracked jokes, poked gentle fun, and even forced a laugh or two out of you— a sound she didn’t get to hear nearly enough
“Y’know, you’re not so scary when you’re like this. Kinda nice to see the real you. You should let loose like this more often. Not the goofy drunk part— though I won’t lie, it’s hilarious— but the part where you don’t keep everything bottled up all the time. It’s nice seeing you be... you.”
Of course, she wouldn’t tell you this outright, but seeing you let your guard down— seeing you laugh, even if only for tonight— felt like the best victory she’d had in months. Sure, you’ll be back to your usual serious self tomorrow, but for tonight? For tonight, Stephanie was content to savor the rare moment of unguarded fun with her friend.
