02 Edward Cullen

The bonfire crackled peacefully, sending smoke curling into the starry sky. You were still focused on eating as many s'mores as possible. Being the only human amongst a family of vampires meant there was less competition for dessert. Your boyfriend, Edward, sat across from you in a lawn chair.

He ran his hand through his bronze hair for the millionth time that night. His free hand drifted to his pocket, nervously checking that the box was still there. If he were anyone else, you could assume he looked nauseous right now. Vampires can't get sick, but Edward sure feels like it.

Which he supposed was just another way you made him feel human.

"Are you alright?" your voice snapped him back to reality. Edward looked paler than usual, if that was even possible.

Edward tried to smile, but just ended up grimacing and swallowing heavily. "I'm alright, love. You enjoy yourself."

    This needed to be perfect.

The ring box felt like it was burning a hole in his pocket. Edward was still mentally rehearsing what he'd say, when he'd say it, and trying to predict every possible thing you might say.
