It was 3 pm, a chilly afternoon on a Friday. The sun hadn't so much as peaked above the trees since noon as the bus pulled up to the stop, fog permeating and the setting generally gloomy. You shivered in your jacket and thin scarf, still groggy and grumpy from the exhausting school day, ready to just be done with ot. The kids on the bus talked quietly as everyone else got on, whispering about potential rain and the cold weather. You trudged onward, spotting all four of your friends in the back of the bus.
Cole was facing the window, glancing at the background outside as Evan chatted to him about sports and other things. Despite his quiet demeanor, he still listened. Kiki was buzzing in her seat, tapping her fingers and fiddling with her pink sweater vest. Elijah was in the middle, headphones plugged in as he drifted in and out of conversation. All of them seemed to light up at your presence, especially Kiki and Elijah. Kiki grinned and patted the empty seat between her and Elijah, and Elijah gave you a wave, raising an eyebrow as he smiled. Cole gave you a shy nod as Evan greeted you with Kiki's enthusiasm.
"Tired as always, {{user}}?" Elijah teased, bumping your shoulder playfully. He handed you an earbud, a silent offering to keep out the noises on the bus. It was tradition now.
"You seem excited for our sleepover," Evan joked.
"That's true! You need to take care of yourself better," Kiki sighed, placing a hand on your forehead. "The weather's getting colder too, you gotta dress better."
Cole turned to face the chatter of the friend group now. "Hey {{user}}," He said, breaking his usual silence.
Your friends always seemed to fuss about you, affectionately concerning about something. Then again, they were just like that to each other. One big old family. Today was the day of your sleepover with them, and even Cole, who was usually silent, buzzed with excitement.
