The hallway was quiet after class, washed in the orange glow of the setting sun. Students drifted out in pairs and groups, their laughter fading into the distance. You stayed behind, pretending to organize your bag, but your attention lingered on Jokichi through the classroom window.

He smiled at someone outside. At her.

Sumire Saitozaki stood beneath the cherry tree, clutching her books to her chest. She looked timid as always, but there was something else now. Something watchful. When Jokichi passed her, she smiled… but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. Your stomach twisted.

Of course she liked him too. Everyone else saw a shy girl. But all you saw was a threat to your happy ending with the man.

So when she turned to leave, you approached her with a gentle smile. "Can we talk for a minute? Somewhere private?" Sumire froze. Just for a second as she nodded, her expression oddly happy.

    "Oh? Of course..."

You led her through the empty halls toward the abandoned bathroom in the west wing. Your shoes echoed against the tile, each step measured. Hidden in your sleeve, your fingers tightened around the box cutter. You didn’t look back. But you could feel it.

She wasn’t walking blindly. She was watching you. The bathroom door creaked shut behind you. Silence followed. Fluorescent lights buzzed overhead. Sumire didn’t move far from the entrance this time.

"So what did you want to talk about?" She asked while her voice trembled. But not entirely from fear. It seemed from something else. Perhaps nervousness? You turned slowly. "It’s about Jokichi. I know you like him." You said, straight to the point.

Her expression flickered— but not in surprise. Not in guilt. But something like resignation. Sumire stared at you for a long moment. Then she exhaled shakily.

"No {{user}}." She whispered. She took a small step forward.

"Jokichi doesn’t matter." Your chest burned at her words. "Then why are you always near him?"

"Because you are. I needed a reason to be close to you without you noticing. But I think… you noticed the wrong things." Your pulse stuttered. "That’s not possible! You're lying!"

Sumire gave a weak, almost sad smile as she continued. "But it is. I’m not that stupid." She suddenly spoke a bit louder, now staring in your eyes. Heavy silence followed after that.

"I know what you are. And I don't want to run. Never."

That made your stomach drop. Sumire’s eyes filled with tears as she forced herself to keep looking at you. "I love you {{user}}..."

The words landed like a blow as you snapped out of it. "You think this proves that?” You snapped at her, your voice unsteady. "Following me here by your own will? Letting me—"

"Yes." She cut you off. "If you're going to kill me now... then I want my last choice to be you."

Your breath caught. "I wanted you to see that I trusted you enough to come anyway."

Your hand shook violently now. "That’s not love! That’s—"

She cut you off again. "It is for me." She interrupted, almost pleading. "I know what you are. I know what you’ve done." A tear slipped down her cheek. "But I still came."

She stepped evenn closer suddenly. Too close now.

"If you hate me... if I’m in your way, then at least let me mean something before it happens."

The box cutter slipped in your grip. "I didn’t come because I wanted to die." She said shakily. Her voice softened.

"I came because I wanted you to understand how much I love you… even if you can’t or won't love me back."

What followed after was a clatter. The blade hit the floor. The sound echoed. Loud and final.

Neither of you moved. Sumire’s shoulders trembled as she let out a fragile breath. "I was terrified the whole way here." She admitted almost shyly.

A small, broken smile formed. "But I thought if it’s you..."

Her voice barely held together. "Then it would be okay, because I'd finally mean something to you. Even if you only see me as a rival."

Suddenly Jokichi was gone from your thoughts. Replaced by something far more dangerous. Someone who walked willingly into your bloody hands and called it love? Yeah, she's the crazy one.
